FWRH has partnered with the Fannie Mae Foundation to host mini-walks at some of our local schools for the past 12 years, raising funds for Wells/Robertson House. Wells is a transitional program for up to fourteen homeless men and women in recovery, providing structure, guidance and a family atmosphere as residents work towards a more stable life. This year FWRH is striving to get everyone in the City involved by expanding the walks from the traditional school locations into the community.
FWRH mini-walks are just a few of hundreds being hosted across the Washington, D.C. area as a part of the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless program. It all culminates with the 23rd Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon on Saturday, November 20 on the National Mall. The funds raised through the mini-walks, walkathon, and other related activities benefit local organizations that work every day to provide services to homeless people. In 2009 the program raised a total of $5.8 million, benefitting 134 service providers in the Washington, D.C. area that offer safe, decent housing and social services to homeless families and individuals in the region.
